When you decide to build a house the first question you’re going to ask yourself is – How do you live? What’s important to you in your life? Is it a big kitchen because you entertain family and friends? Is it a large master bath with a steam shower and a whirlpool bathtub? Do you spend a great deal of time outside? All of these question center around your life and how you live. Continue Reading →
Interior design isn’t exactly known for being cheap. Especially if they’re going to charge for you for all items they purchase which includes a hefty markup on top of their fee’s and the designer will probably get a percentage of the sale from those manufacturers. If you won the lottery then you can skip all of this because it doesn’t really matter if the designer wants to sell you a French colonial dining room table that costs $25,000. Yeowza! I know there’s a large push for colorful appliances but I’m going to add in my two cents just for fun. I don’t think so! There you have it. That’s worth about two-cents.
One of the things that I love is time-honored traditions. I grew up this way and it has stuck with me. If I had a cabin in the north woods I would like it to look like a cabin. It needs to fit my mental picture and my dreams of the north woods. No gas fireplaces in my cabin only real wood that I split myself. I would not want a cabin that looked like a house in the suburbs. It should look like a cabin otherwise what the point. These things just make sense to me. Continue Reading →
I love stone and all the history, beauty, warmth and romance that goes along with it. Stone walls, stone fireplaces, stone accents – anything stone feels good to me. If you can add stone to your home whether inside or out, do it and do it with style. There are many kinds of stone and if your home is old or new it’s easy to work stone into your new design or remodel.

The polls are in, and one of the hottest colors to watch for in 2015 is this fabulously vibrant Greek Blue! What’s not to love? It’s the color of the sea, the sky, and some of the most magnificent rooftops in Santorini, Greece. With both vibrant and soothing effects, this color is a must-do for 2015.
Here are some easy ways to incorporate this stunning color into your home to create a true Greek experience for your friends and family this year!
Paint it Blue.
Feeling really bold? Try one of these fabulous blue paint colors by Sherwin Williams! If you don’t want to paint an entire room, just paint an accent wall. If you don’t want to paint any walls, consider this… Add a Greek Blue entrance to your home or specialty room by painting your doors in a deep, vibrant blue for a true Greek feel! Or, paint a piece of accent furniture such as an end table.
One of the most rapidly growing trends is colored appliances – big and small – such as the washer and dryer, ovens, mixers, coffee makers, and everything in between. We love this, and it’s a great way to add some quick bright colors into your home!
Tile for Style.
Add a punch of Greek to your kitchen or bathroom by using a bold blue backsplash.
A stylish and chic accent chair, love-seat or couch can be a great way to add that Greek feel to a living, dining, or sitting room.
A quick and cost-effective way to add the pizzazz of this Greek Blue room to any room is to throw down a new dynamic rug with some great textures/patterns!
Or… Keep it simple.
Smaller accents, such as throws, accent pillows, candles, wall decor, or dinnerware can be purchased in a rich, vibrant Greek blue for a big statement on a smaller budget!
It doesn’t matter how you use this magnificent color – boldly or simply – it’s sure to add some style to your home!

However, it’s surprising that when planning a new home or thinking about remodeling the existing one, the idea of a laundry room is not something that comes to our mind instantly. In fact, for most of us it is an afterthought that rarely materializes into reality. But having a dedicated laundry space has plenty of advantages and you will soon realize that it makes your life a lot easier as well.

Like it or not, another white winter is just around the corner. But, just because it’s freezing outside doesn’t mean you can’t warm things up inside. Terri Schmidt, Owner/Director of Design at DreamHouse/DreamKitchens, offers her expert advice on ways that you can cozy up your bedroom during another cold Wisconsin Winter.
Add a Fireplace. Aside from the actual heat the fireplace will provide the space, the addition of a fireplace will create a romantic ambiance in the space. Turn it on before reading in bed and enjoy both the warmth and relaxing ambiance it creates. Continue Reading →
A decade ago, we just called them basements. Today, homeowners are spending big bucks turning dark, drab basements into stylish, multipurposelower levels, completely remodeled to fit a family’s needs.
It’s no surprise that lower level remodeling is a rapidly growing trend we are seeing in the remodeling industry. What’s interesting about this lower level remodeling phenomenon, however, is how people are utilizing their new spaces.
