Specialty Rooms

Specialty rooms are fun additions to your home that usually surprise people because you don’t think about them during the early stages of your design process, but everyone loves them when they see the finished room in action.  Bars, libraries, home office, movie rooms and wine cellars add a strong element of class and style to your home and if you like to entertain, specialty rooms become the favorite room on the house.

Dream Kitchens Dream Rooms (DKDR) can build a spectacular specialty room for you when you decide to add on to your current home or if you’re thinking about building a new home.  The vast resources and experience we have in this area should help you make a decision with how these rooms play into your lifestyle.

Bars: Let’s face it, when you have friends and family over, outside of the kitchen, the bar is where everyone gathers to talk, munch on snacks or watch the big game on the flat screen TV.  It doesn’t mater how big your room is or how big the bar is because with simple planning and design you home is now the go-to place for fun.  What’s exciting about bars is the endless materials you can use for the bar top.  The bar top should be spectacular and dynamic.  Some people love to recreate a memory  and use old barn wood and bowling alley lanes for the top or even copper or zinc tops.  The choice is seemingly endless and with all the great refrigerators and wine coolers made today the look of your bar quickly comes together in a beautiful way.

Libraries: I love books and quiet retreats so libraries are one of my favorite specialty rooms.  The beauty here is that a library can be just one wall in a room that’s decorated for peace and quiet.  A deep brown leather pub chair and a barn wood table instantly bring back your college days.  Add some low level lighting and a wall of the books you’ve collected over the years and the time you spend here will start the minute the room is done.

Home Office: The home office has taken on an entirely different meaning over the past few years with the powerful advancements in the Internet, cloud computing and video conferencing.  Working from home in a magnificent office has become extremely popular along with being energy efficient.  It seems that everyone wants to work from home and, like most things in your home, you can do just about anything you want with design and decorating.  No matter what style of home you live in, adding a unique home office is a must for working parents with a busy life style.

Spa’s: For anyone who lives in cold weather (or even a four season climate) the greatest thing in the world on a cold wintery day and night is having your very own spa!  DKDR is in Wisconsin so we know more than a little about cold weather living and having us build you a spa would bring great joy to everyone who uses it.  There is nothing like cross country skiing or going for a long walk or run in the cold and coming home to site in your four person infrared sauna or have a loved one give you a message on your massage table.  These roomscan be tucked away in obscure places in your lower level and you can add any kind of equipment you want and retro fit the room to your wants and needs. Treadmills, spinning bikes and weights can be added and the more creative you are the better.  Add a water feature or even a gas fireplace in the corner.  If you want your spa to be more exercise oriented add a small flat screen TV in the up corner to watch while running on the treadmill.  If I had my choice, I would want my spa to just like Sundara.  I’ve been there and it’s AMAZING!

Movie Rooms/Game Rooms: With technology changing by the minute movie rooms have evolved into the world of amazing.  If you love movies consider a movie theater because the scale of these rooms can be just about any size you want and surround technology for your theatre experience is not what it used to be.  It’s incredible!  (But pricey)  However, if you don’t have the budget for the true theater experience don’t worry, smaller rooms with 60″ plasma TVs have arrived and can pull double duty for movies and sports with the picture quality and sound being “wow” fantastic.  By the way, when was the last time you had an enjoyable experience at a movie theatre? Today, all it takes is a click of a button to download a movie is or you can build your own library of movies easily.  What’s also nice about going this route is using your Playstation3 or Xbox player on a plasma TV. Tiger Woods golf or Madden Football games are so real that in a matter of days you’re hooked and competing online with people around the world.  In addition, if you have tons of family or travel pictures you can have your Apple TV system stream those images onto your screen and entertain your friends and family for hours and control everything right from your iPhone or iPad.  Game rooms that double as a movie room is the way to go.

Wine Cellars: The hobby of the sophisticated where sipping wines you’ve spent years collecting is magical and it doesn’t matter if your entertain friends or it’s just the two of you having fun, a wine cellar is a great specialty room.  Wine is personal and once again, the size of the wine cellar really doesn’t matter and even a very small cellar can hold 500-1000 bottles of wine.  Temperature controlled systems for your room are easily installed and the insulation to keep the temperature constant is inexpensive.  You can decorate the inside of your wine cellar with brick or stone or even create a room that looks like a French or Italian cave.
