Grand Arboretum Kitchen
Perched above a tree line and nearby lake, this 1950s contemporary home already boasted architectural charm—vaulted ceilings, rich wood detailing, and thoughtful angles—but the kitchen's closed layout blocked one of its most valuable assets: the view. With the wall separating the kitchen and dining area removed, the entire space is now open to embrace its natural surroundings, highlighting the sights of lush, green canopy and azure water as integral features of this kitchen’s aesthetic. Preserving the home's original ceiling while brightening the interior finishes was key. Our design weaves crisp white cabinetry with cool-toned quartz countertops and bold blue accents that echo the lake beyond, all balanced against warm new wood flooring for a grounded, organic feel.
Utility was driven by the rhythm of a large family who cooks and gathers often. Two islands, one designed for prep and the other for entertaining, support multitasking and collaboration. Elsewhere, the built-in banquette seating offers a flexible, casual gathering space that can accommodate larger groups. Texture and contrast were central to the design story: metals and woods mingle, glass tile glistens behind the range, and a custom-fabricated banquette table anchors the dining area with sculptural presence. Throughout, thoughtful cabinetry inserts, expanded storage, and accessible appliance placement bring function to every inch, while keeping the visual identity refined and uncluttered.
The execution required precision and creativity, from integrating dual angled islands with perfect symmetry to tailoring custom lighting for every layer of use. Under-cabinet LEDs, recessed can lights, and artistic pendants all work in harmony to enhance the open feel of the space, while the tactile mix of materials—wood, metal, glass, and stone—grounds the design in a modern-yet-natural scheme where every material was selected to stand the test of time in both durability and style. This kitchen now thrives at the intersection of craftsmanship and comfort, a space that celebrates family, nature, and the unique geometry of the original home, all reimagined through a contemporary lens.
