In search of a place to relax and entertain, these homeowners requested we transform their basement into a luxurious retreat complete with a family room, bar, media room, and flex space. The remodel employs a traditional style and features columns to match elements found throughout the rest of the house.
Stepping into the theater room rivals the traditional moviegoing experience. Mere steps from the bar, the homeowners—along with friends and family—find comfort in six plush, luxurious recliners, incredible surround sound, and an immersive view of their favorite flicks. A wood countertop backs the seating area for additional guests. Recessed lighting makes it easy for viewers to find their seats and get settled in while ambient lighting lends a cool, theater-like flair. Classic movie posters are artfully displayed in recessed cutouts to complete the movie theater look. When the show is about to start, the homeowners can close the double pocket doors at the entrance for a true cinematic feel.
The bar area is a showcase of craftsmanship and sophisticated design. Custom, raised-panel cabinetry by DHDK exudes class, where cherry finishes complement granite countertops and stone accents. The mixologist-friendly bar includes a sleek sink, two beverage coolers, illuminated display cabinets, and a proper top shelf. A stunning island reflects the materials of the bar and features stealthy blue underlighting as it offers generous seating for intimate gatherings and lively celebrations alike.
The focal point of the family room is the low profile fireplace with a deep cherry mantle and stone exterior. Built-in shelving and cabinetry from DHDK flank the fireplace with a luminous space to display art and heirlooms as well as lend convenient storage space. On the exterior wall of the family room are panoramic windows and a patio door that impart exceptional natural light.
The flex space invites playful luxury as a dedicated game room, outfitted with a custom poker table and classic arcade machine. The room’s intimate proportions, accentuated by extended window sills, provide a cozy and luminous environment—ideal for memorable moments with family and friends.
